Professional problems in the humanist world
It is actual fact, that humanist occupations are very lucrative today. Since school a lot of people suppose this speciality to be very interesting. With such an point of view they are educated in their families, go to high school, to a university and finally they begin rearing their own children that way. Deadlock.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their significance?
There are several reasons.
firstly modern engineering achieved such a high degree of progress that the majority of people is capable of running it without having special technical skill. thereby there is no necessity for further dissemination of engineering knowledge. Humanits application starts dominating in all fields of life.
second it is an well known fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They prefer to explain the world around and consume products, but not to produce something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not influence positively on dissemination of technological knowledge. People are simply not interested in it.
Thirdly the resource base has got such a degree of devastation that we frequently have no place for work after learning the theory.
Finally a very important thing is the policy of the government. What professions does it promote as needed nowadays? We can easily learn it by watching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they promote now? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media present us pleasant, nice way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a after all?
Lack of qualified workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will cause a perilous situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified teachers able to train worthy personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our state do in order to improve the situation? it is clear that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our country should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. state should apply efforts in order to promote technical professions in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve engineering professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
